ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Karissa

I’m a Licensed Naturopathic Doctor practicing in the State of Maine. I first found out about naturopathic medicine while I was studying pre-med in college. I stumbled across the wellness and alternative medicine program and quickly found my passion. This program immersed me in the multitude of ways holistic practices can provide pathways for profound healing and life changing growth. Throughout my years there, I delved into my own healing through reiki, past life regressions, therapy and meditation. The idea of becoming a naturopathic doctor crossed my path and I knew I wanted to attend naturopathic medical school.

Naturopathic medicine provides me the tools I need to approach every patient with a comprehensive, effective and unique plan made for them. In my practice, you are not a number. I take the time to listen to your story and ask the right questions to get to the root cause of your health concerns. Each time we meet, we uncover more and peel back each layer, like an onion. I use my training and understanding of your unique case to recommend simple, effective and evidence based treatments.

When I have time between patients, and being a mama to my sweet tiny toddler, I love working with birthing people.  As a birth doula in the greater Portland, Maine region, I get to help birthing families during a monumental time in their lives.

I grew up in New Hampshire and spent summers outside in nature and winters shoveling snow. I attended Northern Vermont University (formerly Johnson State College) and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Wellness and Alternative Medicine. Two years later, I started medical school at The National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

Long days, a rigorous curriculum, clinical hours, patients contacts, board exams and so many character-building experiences filled my 4 years there. In 2018 I graduated with a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine. I completed a one year clinical residency at NUNM, where I continued to study under incredible doctors, began to see patients independently and taught current students the art of naturopathic medicine. After completing residency, I started a practice at a primary care clinic in Washington state.

Maternity leave and the birth of my sweet little boy started a new adventure in 2020 and my time in Oregon came to a close. I found my home in Oregon for 6 years and have recently moved back to the east coast to Maine with my husband, son Oliver and my two cats Theo and Mellie.

I am now supporting patients locally in the Portland, Maine area as well as offering virtual consults worldwide. I'd love to chat with you on a discovery call to learn about you and your health goals!
